Size: a quarter of a mile, 8ft high

Client: Spindles Shopping Centre, Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Unity Trust Bank.

Community involvement: 7 primary schools, two disabled groups, unemployed group and local artists; 130 local residents

 

A quarter of a mile long. The Spindles shopping Centre mural was based on all the names of the Cotton Mills of Oldham. The project involved over 100 local artists and many local groups. Completed with the assistance of Mark Whyatt, Ged Byrant over sunny two weeks. The following sequence of photos sort of, takes you on a tour of the mural, starting at the entrance to the building site.

 

​Andrew Crummy is an artist who draws and paints. Since 1986 he has completed many artworks, illustrations, paintings and murals.

He is known as the designer of community art tapestries including The Great tapestry of Scotland.

In 2023 he was awarded an MBE, an honorary doctorate from Dundee University and a Fletcher of Saltoun Award from The Saltire Society.
